Solid Ground
Politics • Spirituality/Belief • Culture
As somebody who suffered from increasingly totalitarian "woke" ideology in my former workplace, I understand how critical regular "reality checks" are. This community is for people who wish to engage with each other and create a community of support to help make sense out of the chaos.

Mamdani spoof

Someone shared this with me who said it had been circulating in the Hasidic community. Will likely offend a lot of people these days.

My New Job - The Dandiest Job Ever - Happy 4th!

Hi everyone, I haven't been active in Solid Ground for a while, but I am still alive and kicking! I now work as personal assistant to a mind-bendingly weird and diva-esque artist-lip-syncher-performer named Fiona Blueberry. She is blissfully clueless about politics and seems to be completely unaware of the culture wars. Working with her is a breath of fresh air. If you need a mood lift, I encourage you to watch this video we made together. Happy 4th, everyone! Wishing you fun/love/peace on this holiday. :) www.fionablueberry.com

I have been thinking recently about something I mentioned in Sunday group about how the "queer" community have been surfing on the back of the gay and lesbian community grassroots work done over the past 50 years. It also made me question the concept of being "in the closet" and "outing" others which, in a way, is in the same family as "doxxing" and "canceling"

Became aware of this from reading chef Jonathan Tower's memoir several years back

The necessity behind all three concepts is the need to be legitimate and the obligation of others to legitimatize.

Tower’s seemed to be a man who valued privacy over performative identity. He did not “flaunt his gayness” (which for me is refreshing) nor align himself with public activism during the AIDS crisis. He became a target within his own community. He was vilified for what was perceived as apathy or betrayal, yet he quietly supported others and contributed behind the scenes.

Hard-won agency and the ability to define one’s identity and ...

Taking a break

Hi Lovely People of Solid Ground,

I’m writing to let you know after some deep reflection that I’ve decided I need to do a bit of a reset on many levels of my life, and as a result, I will be stepping away from Solid Ground, at least for a few months. I’m finding I need to be spending less time scrolling on X, listening to podcasts, watching YouTube, and generally absorbing more content than I can process; and also feel a need to be spending more time trying to build in-real-life, in-person connections. I would also like to be spending more time engaged in my spiritual life, which used to be a big part of my life but has dwindled down to next to nothing. My official final day is November 7. I will likely pop into Locals from time to time, however, but may take a break from that for a few weeks.

It has meant so much to me to be engaged with you all these past few years. It is really has been an honor to be able to hear your stories, challenges, ways of making sense of the last few...
