Solid Ground
Politics • Spirituality/Belief • Culture
As somebody who suffered from increasingly totalitarian "woke" ideology in my former workplace, I understand how critical regular "reality checks" are. This community is for people who wish to engage with each other and create a community of support to help make sense out of the chaos.

My New Job - The Dandiest Job Ever - Happy 4th!

Hi everyone, I haven't been active in Solid Ground for a while, but I am still alive and kicking! I now work as personal assistant to a mind-bendingly weird and diva-esque artist-lip-syncher-performer named Fiona Blueberry. She is blissfully clueless about politics and seems to be completely unaware of the culture wars. Working with her is a breath of fresh air. If you need a mood lift, I encourage you to watch this video we made together. Happy 4th, everyone! Wishing you fun/love/peace on this holiday. :) www.fionablueberry.com

Wanted to repost this conversation bw Mary Harrington and Rafe Kelley. I finally got around to it, and, while it takes a while, by the end of the conversation, they're grappling with one of the hearts of this question of the danger/downside of liberalism, which in this case I'll define as the orientation of individual liberty and freedom as "the good."

That's a spicy, challenging topic for those of us Americans (especially) raised in the Western liberal tradition. In a lot of ways, individual freedom has replaced God (or whatever word or concept works to represent "the good" ).

Harrington is a uniquely skilled voice on this, coming at it as she does via her critique of feminism, the pill, and so on. Her position is that transhumanism (and the tyranny associated with this "freedom from nature" ) is an unavoidable output of society's aligning itself along the "individual liberty" axis.

My sense is that this sort of analysis is very very close to the heart of the character, quality, ...
