I am posting this comment in its entirety. It is from a link I found through the hollymathnerd link. Will post link in the comment section.
When I really began to look into "wokeism/woke-stroking" attending my grad-program in 2022, it was pretty immediately clear that it was an example of the religious environment I was raised in. At that time, I began to say that there is a "woke-left" and a "woke-right". I mentioned in some groups this week how I would state this with people I was having conversations with and it seemed to have a leveling force or that I was inured in some way.
For me, any religion that portends a better place and the ways to get there is a purity trap and, thus, authoritarian.
So, for me, that's why it's funny for me to hear about the new discussions of woke-right being a new concept.
That said, it was nice to read this comment as it validates my actions.
"Here is another perspective from a student of medieval literary tradition. So, last week, I was reading my old Medieval English Literature textbook, and toward the end was a section on mystery plays and morality plays. These plays portrayed in dramatic form on small stages the mysteries of the Christian religion and Christian moral virtues. I don't invalidate what you say because I agree with the drama perspective you show us. Instead, I add another reason for our distaste for Woke remakes and films in general: they're speaking to the faithful, not to us. Woke films are the mystery and morality plays of their religion and are foreign to those of us who do not adhere to their tenets. That is the reason they say, "You didn't like Ghostbusters because you're a sexist!" Or you could insert whatever film they get upset about us panning with whatever the -ism or -phobia applies. It is basically the adherent of the Woke religion telling us we're going to whatever Hell they believe in, that we're sinners or heretics. Or infidels. Woke is a religion, and I think after figuring out that Robin D'Angelo and Ibram X. Kendi wrote their liturgy, that whiteness is their original sin, and "doing the work" is their acts of conscience, we now have their mystery and morality play"
Hi everyone, I haven't been active in Solid Ground for a while, but I am still alive and kicking! I now work as personal assistant to a mind-bendingly weird and diva-esque artist-lip-syncher-performer named Fiona Blueberry. She is blissfully clueless about politics and seems to be completely unaware of the culture wars. Working with her is a breath of fresh air. If you need a mood lift, I encourage you to watch this video we made together. Happy 4th, everyone! Wishing you fun/love/peace on this holiday. :) www.fionablueberry.com
Just learned from a FAIR chapter-leader meeting that Ryan Ruffaner is writing a book on this topic, so keep your eyes peeled (he is still seeing many instances of it). Also learned from the meeting there is still a lot of gender legislation being pushed in some states, like Colorado, and many states are pushing ideologically informed Ethnic Studies curriculum (esp on the West Coast).
