I just texted a dear friend of mine in NYC. He was not aware that Mamdani's wife liked Oct. 7th posts before Israeli response and seemed indifferent to the nail bombs thrown in front of Gracie Mansion and the deceptive language used to report it. This is a man who was there with me during 9/11, volunteered amid the rubble, is Jewish-adjacent. It turns out that he voted for Mamdani. I feel frightened by the cognitive dissonance. This is one of many incidents this week.

Although art should be a free form of expression for all, the patriarchy has mansplained, whitewashed, and convinced anyone who isn’t a strraight-cisgenered-man, that we should be quiet and calm.
As artists, we get to make our own rules, so we won’t be silenced. Inspired by the Riot grrrl movement in the early 1990’s, we want to highlight DIY forms of punk activism. You can be included by submitting visual art pieces, or zines. You can submit work that focuses on a movement, a specific person, or just a feeling.
The world is crazy right now (and maybe always has been), but it is so important to come together with other artists, and humans, and work together to bring change.
